Mighty Mac the Double Fairlie Engine

Mighty Mac is a double-ended Fairlie locomotive. Despite the opposing personalities of the two ends, they are technically one engine. Mighty is the "older" of the two, and is distinguished by a small flick of hair. Mac is the "younger" half, and is distinguished by his youthful features, round nose and freckled cheeks. They are the newest engine on the Skarloey Railway, and also the strongest.

Bio

Mighty Mac was built in 1992 and arrived on Sodor in 2005. Prior to their adoption into the Skarloey Railway family, Mighty Mac had only worked in the shunting yards. Their lack of knowledge beyond their boundaries created much conflict between the two halves (for example, which end is in charge of doing what), which placed themselves and their passengers in great danger whilst running an important errand. But, with advice from Thomas in mind, they were able to complete their task and realise the value of working as one.

Appearances

Mighty Mac made their debut in the ninth season, and have since become recurring characters with minor roles in A Smooth Ride and Properly in Duncan Drops a Clanger

Livery

Mighty Mac is painted royal blue with gold and orange lining.

Trivia

  • Mighty is the only engine on Sodor to have a flick of hair on his forehead.
  • Mac is the first steam engine to have freckles.
  • Mighty Mac is the only narrow gauge engine not to have a number attached to them. Presumbly, they are Engine Number 10 on the Skarloey Railway.
  • Mighty Mac is the only narrow gauge engine not to have nameplates.
  • Mac has freckles - the second character in the television series to do so (the first being Alfie).

Basis

Mighty Mac is based on the Fairlie locomotives "Livingston Thompson" and "David Lloyd George" of the Ffestiniog Railway. They have added bufferbeams with low-set buffers and couplings.
